On Sunday Fraser attended the Lundin juniors' End of Season Away Day. The event was held at The Torrance Golf Course, Fairmont, where daylight made it challenging!
There were four fourballs, each team comprising of a council member Team 1 consisting of Jim Curley, Sam Nicholson, Ryan Brown and Callum Rae; Team 2 comprising of Fraser, Stewart Philp, Mackenzie Haggart and Cameron Adamson; Team 3 was Raymond Philp, Dean Robertson, Euan Donaldson and Jack Harper and Team 4 led by Neil Harper, Steven Paterson Jnr, Ross Harvey and Connor Dewar.
There were two competitions running; the main competition (an individual stableford) and a team event for the two best nett stableford points scored in each team at each hole. Under normal play these competitions would be played over 18 holes of golf; however the Junior Convenor had a slight mental block when booking the times and had forgotten the clocks went back and booked at 1:00pm resulting in the last four holes being played in darkness! Safe to say many of the competitors hit their balls out of sight on this occasion!
Well done to Cameron Adamson on winning closest to the pin at hole 17, and congratulations to Ryan Brown for fighting off Sam Nicholson and Steven Paterson Jnr on a countback with 27 points to win over the 14 holes that counted. The team comprising of Jim, Sam, Ryan and Callum won the team event with some great scoring and our thanks go to Raymond Philp (Junior Convenor) and Neil Balingall (Vice-Captain and Course Superintendent at Fairmont) for making this possible.
Many thanks to all who took part in Saturday's Pro's Sweep. There is just one more to go this weekend before the Winter Eclectic commences so if you haven't already booked yourself a time, give the shop a call. Usual sweep and twos apply with the added bonus of a fourball for Douglas Park Golf Club for the winner! You've got to be in it to win it!
With only six boxes left in our Prize Draw for the limited edition Callaway Open Championship golf bag, next time you're in th shop ask for one of the last remaining squares and we'll pick a lucky winner in the coming days. A great opportunity to win a £350 golf bag for the simple sum of £5!
With effect from Monday, 2 November any golfer wishing to use a fairway mat may do so on a purely voluntary basis. Please note, however, that the Winter Eclectic which is due to start on Saturday, 7 November will be played under normal course rules where preferred lies will be in operation - play from a mat during this event is prohibited until the New Year.
To assist with the recovery of selected areas on the course that are heavily scarred, parts of the fairways at holes 2 and 7 will be staked and roped off. It is in these areas that we are asking ALL golfers to play the ball from the area it lies, but from a mat supplied in buckets at the selected areas. Balls must NOT be moved and played out of these lined sections. A more in-depth description of the above is posted on the notice boards throughout the Golf Club.
