Golf on Tour

A new era?

Bryson DeChambeau’s U.S. Open victory was dominant, comprehensive and (however you feel about the man) impressive. Having transformed his body by adding extraordinary amounts of muscle, ‘The Mad Scientist’ has developed a completely unorthodox golf swing. In fact, during his winning round on Sunday, commentators compared his driver swing side-by-side with a top baseball player!

The big-driving American wasn’t alone in breaking the mould, though. Matthew Wolff, the eventual runner-up, moves his knees more like an Elvis Presley dance move than a PGA Tour winner’s golf swing. Both of these men, alongside world number one Dustin Johnson, go to show that there is definitely no one way to swing a golf club.

The wedge for club golfers

Competition news

On the course...

Saturday saw The Victory Cup take place, a bogey competition against the course saw some interesting scores with Barry McGiibbon leading the pack closely followed by Keith Stuart, Kevin Borthwick and Charlie Slaven. Twos were in a plenty returning £12.44 per two! 

This week sees The R&A Anniversary Quaich with again a great entry.

 
Shop news

Coming soon...

No photos this week just information! We expect a delivery in around a week of some crested windtops, gillets and sweatshirts from Sunderland and some autumn clothing from Callaway. As the weather is most likely set to get a little cooler over the coming weeks, keeping warm is where we are going to concentrate on next!

Club news

Catering update

With the school holidays scheduled in October there will be a two week window where the catering will be slightly more limited than normal, both Sean and John will be taking an alternate week off for a well earned break, during this time catering will still be available with a more limited selection, Saturdays will still be available, any queries drop the clubhouse a call.

Slow play

Moving on from a request from the club last week with regards to slow play and as a gentle reminder could we please ask that whilst it's not a race to get round the course and in some cases the culprits may not be taking excessive time for a round, that all golfers are aware of the players around them to ensure that should you lose the players in front that you allow the group behind to play through!

 
 
Pro's news

A plea from the pro!

As I'm sure you're all aware our visitor traffic has been, shall I say, rather limited this year for reasons I don't need to explain.

We have had reasonable uptake on some offers that we have out there and whilst I fully appreciate that as listed above slow play does rise it's head I have had some of our guests complain about the actions some members have taken.

At present these visitors are key to not only myself here in the shop, but the the catering facility and most importantly our revenue streams which have been hit rather badly!

One of the complaints in question came from some golfers that have been visiting us for some 15 years now and are fully up to speed on what we request of players and the last thing we want to do is scare them away.

These all important visitors are an integral part of our business, please be courteous!

 

Face masks

I have been rather relaxed with regards to face masks here in the pro shop however having had a slap on the hand it may be worth ensuring you have a mask in your pocket as we do require all golfers to check in!

It would seem things look to get worse before they get better and with the want to adhere to guidelines my thanks in advance for your cooperation.
