It’s been a busy week here at Lundie with the return of Winter League action on Sunday along with the Pro’s Sweep Saturday past. We’ve also been preparing for the Annual Presentation of Prizes, looking forward to the Hogmanay Dance and more!

Club news

Presentation of Prizes

As you will all be aware the Presentation of Prizes is coming up on Friday 1st November, tickets are available at a cost of £15 per ticket and for those fortunate enough to win a tournament this year your tickets are also behind the bar for collection.

The dinner will commence at 7pm and the main speaker for the evening is Peter Brown, we look forward to welcoming Peter to the club.

Hogmanay Dance

As a tradition, we will once again be holding a Hogmanay Dance to bring in the New Year, from past experience and feedback this has always been a fantastic night! Tickets are available behind the bar from Tuesday 22nd October at a cost of £50 per ticket.

Pro's Sweep

Cold but calm we were lucky with the weather Saturday past after a week of strong winds and some rainfall. Taking the top spot was Andrew McKeown with an 82 (17) 65 closely followed by Stewart Masterton on 66 and Jimmy Gay on 68 respectfully.

There were 5 players who recorded a magic two and are rewarded with £15 per two for their efforts.

Winter League

Sunday saw the start of the winter league for our scratch team against Drumoig GC at home; unfortunately, it wasn’t the dream start we would have hoped for with the team getting beat 1.5-2.5…onwards and upwards for the next game!

The handicap team are playing this Sunday at home against Leven Thistle so we wish them the best in their campaign opener.

Winter Eclectic

A quick heads up and a reminder that we are only a few weeks off from the start of the winter eclectic which will commence on Saturday 2nd November, the tee sheet will be open for booking as usual and ball in the chute will be in operation until 9am.

Over the past week, Willie’s winter project has gotten underway. However, as always the course remains in top condition and here in the shop, we have been receiving plenty of positive feedback. Well done to Willie and his team, keep up the great effort!

Tuition is available 7 days morning, noon and night! The hardest part is picking up the phone and booking in for the first time.

The round white thing...

Since the game began in the 15th century, there is one thing that has never changed – the ball being the only piece of equipment used on every shot. Despite this, it still gets a raw deal with some golfers viewing it as less important than the clubs used to hit it. So, we decided to take a look back and see how modern golf balls compare to those of yesteryear.

In the beginning

Feathery balls reigned supreme for over 200 years in the early days of golf, but even they are relatively new compared to the original hairy balls (guess what they were stuffed with!).

It's hard to imagine what it would be like playing with those balls these days, and even the later-developed Gutty and Haskell balls left golfers with little-to-no room for error.

Where we are today
