It’s been a busy week on and off the course as we prepare for the 2019 East of Scotland Championship. We also have some in store treats, competition results from this past week and more. Enjoy the read!

Club news

East of Scotland Championship

As you should all be aware by now the East of Scotland Championship is this weekend starting on Saturday. Practice rounds will be played throughout this week, so if you see play from the white tees, please do not be alarmed as this will be competitors preparing for the weekend.

The course will be closed all weekend, so should you wish to escape your better half for the day this would be a good opportunity to cash in on our reciprocal arrangements with Crail, Scotscraig, Ladybank, Royal Burgess, Bruntsfield, Blairgowrie and East Renfrewshire.

If you have any queries regarding booking a reciprocal round don’t be afraid to give us a buzz!

Competition news

The standard remains high!

There was fantastic scoring again this past weekend as you all competed for the Cox Trophy.

Taking the top spot was Andrew Rae scoring 80 (15) 65 closely followed by Graham Keddie, Paul Stewart and Graham Brown all on 67. To break into the top 10 you needed a nett of 69 or better, evidence of a great standard of golf being played at the moment!

The greenkeepers were very generous with their pin positions also this week as there were 22 Magic Two’s recorded. Each player with the lucky number has been rewarded with £8.00 per two and it is noted that Paul Stewart recorded 3 twos on holes 6, 12 and 14.

Charity news

The Anster Fore’s Longest Day

It was a 4am start for the Anster Fore here at Lundie as they tackled 72 holes in one long day for a great cause. Finishing their first round at 8am they set the pace for their next three at Charleton, Elie and then finally Anstruther.

We sent our best wishes to the boys and I’m sure they’d be delighted if you could donate a small amount to assist Macmillan Cancer Support!

Lost your groove?

Much like the tyres on your car, there comes a time when the grooves on your wedges have worn away so much that they need replacing. This process occurs slowly over time and is something that you might not notice at first glance, but when the wear becomes apparent it can have serious consequences on your game.

Fresh vs worn grooves

It might seem a little extreme, but the graphic above illustrates the impact worn grooves can have on shots into greens - a lower ball flight that rolls out farther compared to a wedge with fresh grooves.

Yes, you might be able to adapt by pitching the ball shorter and letting it roll out, but when you don't have much green to work with or are playing a delicate shot worn grooves will be of no use.

What do we suggest?

If dirt, grit and water have visibly harmed your wedge face, it’s time to get your groove back with a new wedge set-up.
