Competition news

Birkmyre Open

Saturday saw our annual Men’s Open tournament with a fantastic entry and a good hard core group of home players. With calm conditions early doors the early birds did have it a little easier, and I’m happy to advise ‘Team Lundie’ came out on top with both Derek Paton and James White both carding superb 69’s with Derek winning the tournament on the BIH. A host of locals also lifted vouchers and congratulations to everyone who took part!

Course news

It’s official - “it’s open for play”

Our eagerly awaited upgrade to the short game facility is now fully operational and a great asset to our ever improving facility. You’ll notice when practicing the fantastic new ECO Bunkers, which are maintenance free and look absolutely superb! The green staff have marked an area with red stakes to advise golfers on where the perimeter lies, so get yourself down for some practice as the short game is where it’s at!

Curry night

Sean’s deciding to spice things up with the menu on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th June from 7pm until 8.30pm. The curry night will comprise some of India’s finest cuisine, a selection of chicken, beef, lamb and vegetable dishes with traditional sides and dips. To book your table please contact the bar staff along with any dietary requirements you may have for the evening.

1 gap, 2 options

The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game.

Gapping at the top end

One part of your set that needs careful consideration is how you transition from your irons into your woods. Lots of golfers struggle to hit their longer irons and instead opt for a replacement hybrid or a more forgiving option, which can lead to large gaps between clubs if you're not careful.

So, what's the solution? Well, take advantage of our services and professional advice, and we'll make sure you have the perfect club/s to fill any gaps at the top end of your bag.

What are your options?

We'll start with Titleist's 818 hybrids. There are two models to choose from: the 818 H1 is a tremedously forgiving option that launches high into the air for impressive distance, whilst the 818H2 is aimed for those after precise yardages and control.

If you're a confident ball-striker, it might be a case of looking at a utility iron like Titleist's T-MB. More forgiving than a traditional muscle back iron, the T-MB delivers a high launch and faster ball speeds for ultimate performance.

So whether you're after a hybrid that will land softer into the greens or a utility iron that is perfect off the tee, speak to a member of the team about your choices.
