Great scoring conditions, again...
The June monthly medal was competed for last Saturday with fantastic scoring conditions again, minus the exception of some low lying fog. A fantastic level par round from James Gay (66) claimed the top spot beating Stew Fowlie on count back followed by a host of 68 and 69s. It was another great weekend for the twos count with 15 recorded, giving all players with the magic number a return of £12.00. |
Success over the wall...
Sunday was also a success for Lundin as Dean Roberson travelled across the wall to play in Leven Golfing Society’s Open where he carded a very Impressive 71 (8) 63 to take home victory. Well done Dean!

I’d like if possible to draw your attention to Thursday’s medal where we had a number of cancelations and no shows! Unfortunately, as you can imagine we too get frustrated when golfers cancel and even more so when they don’t even show. So please bear with us when we are tasked with altering the start times. It’s inevitable we need to move people and whilst all looked rosy at the time it would seem that some didn’t appreciate the changes! We can only apologise for those that didn’t play creating these issues. Our hands are tied in situations like this and it can be quite challenging, we appreciate your patience.

Mr STRI went away delighted!
As many of you have noticed the greens speed over the last week to ten days has become a little slower. While the surfaces have continued to be fantastic, the lack of pace is down to a few elements.
As you’re all aware there has been some low lying fog each morning, this, in turn, is generating moisture and not allowing the greens to be as dry as they were during previous weeks. Adding to this, you may have noticed a slightly stronger smell of garlic! This smell comes from a product that the team must use on the greens to help the prevention of leather jackets, the dreaded beasty that creates havoc with our surfaces! You can imagine that with the very mild temperatures along with moisture that the growth rates have been incredible, again resulting in a lack of pace!
The greenkeepers job can be made very difficult by us golfers and, in many cases, essential works like cutting greens that must be done early in the mornings to ensure as little disruption to play as possible can also have its problems. Most mornings when the greens are cut the ground is damp, again this can have a knock on effect to the speed. Maybe some food for thought would be a dry cut at 11am? Could this make a difference??
With a visit from The STRI on Tuesday I can advise that all is on point with your course, the greens tested for moisture, firmness, slope and speed, and are running a very manageable 9.4. Mr STRI went away delighted!

We’re sure the majority of you will agree that having a distance device on the course is a huge benefit, going hand-in-hand with knowing how far you hit each club. For those of you in the market for a laser rangefinder or GPS device, here are a few options within Garmin’s range to suit different preferences. |
Pinpoint laser accuracy There's one standout feature to Garmin's Z80 laser rangefinder that sets it apart from all others on the market. As well as giving precise distances up to 350 yards away, the Z80 also includes hole maps that are integrated into the viewfinder, which display the shape of the hole and provide front and back distances when you lock on to the flag. |
|
Information at a glance If you prefer wearable technology, Garmin has both GPS watches and bands to suit all styles. The Approach S60 watch, seen here on the left, boasts colour hole maps, hazard information and offers front, middle and back yardages. The other, the Approach X40 band, is a slim, lightweight and waterproof wristband that gives you distances to the green and to hazards, as well as heart rate and activity tracking. |
