Greetings golfers,

Welcome back to the weekly newsletter. This week we have some great new arrivals from Glenmuir, we have various club updates, and we have a competition roundup. Enjoy the read!

This week has seen the arrival of our Glenmuir Autumn/Winter range, some great pieces in lambswool, lined and part cashmere all with the club crest, more winter hats also arrived this week and, with the early morning temperatures being a little cooler during the week just past, they’re bang on time!

Plenty of wind tops and waterproofs in-store and as always there’s an open invitation for you to browse. Stewart returns to resume normal service next Monday so be sure to keep any eye out for notifications on his winter coaching sessions!

Competition roundup

As the season draws to an end, Saturday saw The October Medal played and with a still great field this week’s winner was John Cunningham, 82-(12)-70, winning by one from Stewart Masterton with a host of players on 72 one further shot back.

Next Saturday sees us run a non-courtesy medal on our penultimate counting Saturday of the year, be sure to book your tee times with the shop and get yourself a couple of playing partners!

Supplementary Scoring Days

As many of you will no doubt be aware these days (Mondays) run between April and September for those members unlucky enough not to be able to play weekend golf, or for that matter those again unfortunate people who work away!

Now we are in October these. days are now finished until 2018, I think you’ll agree the golf club gives ample opportunity to submit cards as we do hold events through the season on alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as the usual Saturday medals.

The main reason I bring this to your attention in this week’s newsletter is that I did have a rather irate member on Monday morning who also felt the blame should fall on myself for not allowing him to submit a card.

All competitions. with the exception of “Pro's Day” in August. whether it be match play or strokeplay are discussed in depth with the key personnel of the golf club, when and why competitions are set is not my personal responsibility and with this In mind I would appreciate that should you have a slight grievance with this procedure that you take it up with the match committee, instead of reading us here in the pro shop the riot act.

As you can imagine being front of house, so to speak, we are the main recipient of feedback and, like most clubs, the professional and his team take a fair bit of abuse throughout the season. Please be nice to us!

Course update

The course continues to repair from our recent works and, fingers crossed, with the weather due to hold for the next few weeks we will see good germination and recovery ensuring we enter the winter window with the good surfaces we are so used to having.

Lundie makes TV

Last weekend saw the airing of a recent programme that featured some courses in the Fife area during the recent Ladies Open at Kingsbarns. A great little piece which I’m sure will help keep spreading the word on how great an area Fife is and certainly how superb a course we have here at Lundie.

Catering

By the time you read this, Gary and Elaine will have returned from their week in the sun, the catering facility will be back to normal and your weekend meals and suppers back in action. I’m sure Lorraine and the girls kept you all fed in their absence.


Clubhouse hours

More of an advisory than anything else, so please be aware that as of Monday this week we are now on the winter hours for the clubhouse which basically means the clubhouse will be closed and locked from 5pm!
 
Remember if your heading out for a few holes before darkness falls that you’ll have no access to the building after this time so be sure to leave nothing in the locker rooms!

Presentation Dinner – Friday 3rd November

Now only a matter of weeks away be sure to get those tickets purchased if you’ve won a trophy this year! Always a great night in high demand, not only will this allow you to reflect on the highs and lows of the season but also sample Gary’s superb culinary skills for those of you who haven’t managed to over the last few months! The wine also tends to flow well that evening!
