Club Championship Finals Day
Sunday saw our Finals Day take place, a little later than originally planned due to this year's fantastic summer but well worth the wait. In an enthralling final between Stewart Whiteford and Greg Wishart, there was never more than two holes in it and with some fantastic golf it took until hole 36 for Whiteford to launch his 3-iron second shot to twenty feet where the putt was made and the 2015 champion crowned. Our Feathery, Senior and Junior Championship finals also took place over 18 holes on Sunday afternoon with Euan McLeod, Graham Brown and Sam Nicholson all coming out as champions in their respective finals.
On what was a very challenging day we congratulate all who took part as well as everyone who took the time to come and spectate.
Partners Best Ball
Saturday was the Partners Best Ball competition and the family duo of Charlie Slaven and Dean Robertson came out on top with a brilliant 61 to hold off four teams on 63: John Hill & Michael Rooney; Joe Smith & Steve Meiklejohn; Mike Marshall & Alex Smith and Tommy Braid & Derek Murdoch.
Our course continues to surpass our expectations even through the challenging summer weather we've had. The regular comment and feedback from visitors and members is greatly appreciated and is fed back to Willie and his team on a regular basis.
The young team (Stuart, Adam and Mike) were out last Friday doing some stimp readings. The superb surfaces were reading a simple 9.5, but after a quick turf iron had been utilised, the pace reading was up to 11.4, an incredible increase without damage to the root! For those of you who are not aware of how the speeds are worked out, readings are done in both directions with the average reading, once calculated, being the advertised speed (that's the basic version - watch the adjacent video to see how).
As usual, as the season nears an end we will be doing some low key maintenance. We have a three day window scheduled (weather permitting) for some top dressing, we will update you nearer the time however it is anticipated that this will commence week beginning September 28th.
For all you dog lovers, please see the notice by clicking on this link as an update from the club. It's becoming more and more noticeable over recent months that certain dog walkers are taking big risks on where they are walking. We ask that any member who does have dogs please help us ensure we keep safety and our course as priority, there's an accident waiting to happen out there if people don't adhere to the notices!
