Well done to Mark Arthur in winning the June Medal with a nett 65! In a close second was John Paisley with a scratch 71 for a solid nett 67. The lowest gross score of the day was Greg Wishart with an impressive 69.
After hard-fought battles throughout last week, the final of The Feathery will be played between David Jack (who conquered Scott McBride in the semi-finals) and Ewan Macleod (who beat Robert Spalding). As mentioned in last week's newsletter, the final will be played in August along with the other matchplay competitions.
Northen Open
As many of you know I was away on tour last week attempting to conquer Cruden Bay at the Northern Open. After a +5 in round one on what was a challenging yet good day for scoring, I was sitting tied 48th (50 and ties make the cut). With the good weather continuing on day two, scoring was never going to be bad!! Plus two through nine with the easier part of the course to follow, I felt I had a chance however stumbling towards the end dropping four shots in the last five, I missed the cut line by two.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and would recommend the golf course to anyone heading north for a few days, very friendly and welcoming.
Darlinda's Charity Pro-Am
Away again on Friday, this time playing at the East Renfrewshire Golf Club in the west (which for reference is one of our reciprocal courses) in The Darlinda's Charity Pro-Am which at the end of the event raised £18,000 on the day for such a great cause. On this particular day I struggled a little and shot 75 only to finish two shots behind the winner, good effort!!! NOT!!
Lombard Trophy
Lombard Trophy this time, as we played yesterday (Tuesday) at Crieff. Not my favourite course but it was in great condition. Neither myself or Bryan Hay, who was the lucky qualifier to play with your local chopper, could read the greens and whilst we were good tee to green, the putts just never dropped causing us to stumble to a poor 73, numerous shots from the leaders!! Great day, good company and a super end to my tournament career for 2015!! I've had enough golf to last me a season now, back to the Mars bars!!!
Practice, practice, practice
Poor putting is what happens when we, here at Lundie, get spoiled with greens as good as Willie and his team prepare for us. Trust me, I've tried this golf thing over the last two weeks and there isn't anywhere that touches ours! I ask you all to remember this the next time you have a bad day with the wand!
