Coastal Erosion
You may have noticed over the last week or so some machinery activity on the beach alongside hole one. To keep you up to date with what's going on, I went for a look towards the end of last week to have a chat with the guys who are doing the coastal erosion work on behalf of the club.
The job itself is planned for around four weeks. Over recent years the barriers have taken a battering due to high tides and as a result of this, plus the age of the barriers, upgrades are required to make sure it doesn't get any worse!
The excavators are digging down around four feet where they then drop two feet of concrete to allow the structure of the new sleepers to be placed. The sleepers that we are now using are in keeping with SEPA regulations, whereas the current sleepers are creosoted and as this is now listed as a hazardous substance an alternative treatment had to be found.
The barrier will extend the length of hole one and will continue as far as the pathway to the beach at the front of the tee, a fair bit of timber and concrete is required. While I realise for some this may be a little bit of a boring topic it is essential work required to ensure your course is here for generations to come!
I've enclosed some snaps of the old and new and it's safe to say that without these new barriers the course wouldn't be quite as safe as the pro shop and my gun turrets which face the Forth estuary!!
Junior Champion of Champions
Sunday saw our Junior Club Champion Stewart Philp play in the Fife Junior Champion of Champions at Thornton Golf Club. Stewart finished in a fantastic first place - click here to view the results in full. What a tremendous result!
Stewart informs me he believes he was second as the event was a scratch competition. So as I type I await confirmation, but regardless of this what a great effort and a massive congratulations go to Stewart.
