Just a reminder to all members that this weekend sees the return of the annual East of Scotland. Everyone is invited to spectate and also please be advised that the course will be closed from sunrise Saturday until the close of play on Sunday afternoon. There are some absolutely terrific raffle prizes for this years event (Callaway X2 Hot driver, Callaway hybrid, Lundin crested golf bag, Tullibardine whiskey to mention but a few) tickets available from the bar.
Tuesday morning saw me head north to do battle in this years Northern Open at Murcar Golf Club, with fairways narrower than my store room door it was a tough few days!!
Day one saw me return a score of 74 (+3) which to be honest felt like one under! Tied 20th after round one day two would hopefully be as good! Fourth group out on Wednesday and a strong start saw me three under through five only for play to be delayed as I approached hole seven due to heavy fog (pictured here)!
Play resumed and once the stiffness disappeared we managed 13 holes before play had to be again suspended, sitting on two under at this point things looked good! 6.15pm saw again an attempt at resuming play but alas it wasn't to be! By 7pm and almost some eleven hours on the links round two was abandoned!!
With 110 in the field a decision was made to make the cut on round one and having been sitting T20 I was in, top 36 and ties made the Thursday for the last two rounds. Again a solid start to the round with another birdie at one saw me get to the turn on +3 but with tough conditions a disastrous back nine saw me plummet to the back of the field, round four again was tough and finishing with a 76 saw me finish in 35th position, a great but tiring three days, a little jaded but a great experience!! To summarise it was a great tournament on a tough course which saw me make the cut and pick up a couple of pound but I think I'll stick to selling Mars Bars!!!
Stewart Philp played in The Fife Schools junior tournament at Kirkcaldy Golf Club last week and came out on top, with a solid round on a course he had never played before he picked up his medal to be crowned 2014 Fife Schools Junior Champion, huge congratulations.
Fraser will be doing some Golf Coaching Sessions over four weeks of the summer break as advised in last week's newsletter, interest in this has been good so can I please ask all who would like to take part to get in touch. Details are enclosed here.
