Last Monday saw me head to Downfield Golf Club to try and qualify for The Northern Open due to take place at Murcar Golf Club from Tuesday 17th June. I can happily report that I had a relatively good day at the office with the exception of 16, 17 and 18 allowing me to squeeze my foot through the door. Dropping 4 shots in the last three wasn't planned however it still managed to get me in in by two shots. Fingers crossed my trip north may install a little more confidence in the game.
Tuesday once again saw me return to Downfield for the Callaway Staff Player Qualifying for The Callaway Cup - an event I have been fortunate enough to play in over the last couple of years. With three spaces available yet again another strong bogey bogey finish saw me squeeze the last spot for the event that will take place later in the year. Rest assured if I play well you'll all be the first to know!!
Our annual Birkmyre Trophy Gents Open took place on Saturday returning some great effort from the local members that took part. With very benine conditions the day looked set for some low scoring but as usual the wind picked up a little as the day progressed.
Steve Meiklejohn, for the second year in a row, won the Sandy Stephen Trophy for the best nett score carding a superb 69. Greg Wishart shot a very respectable scratch 69 to be pipped to the post on the count back on the last six holes to finish in second place.
Our current club champion Mr McNab as usual scored a steady 70 giving him third place in The Birkmyre Bowl. In the ten and over category junior member Steven Paterson carded an impressive scratch 83-13 to finish in second place in The Orange Bowl.
Congratulations to all who took part.
The Club Clean service (pictured below) was also on site where many players took advantage of this service throughout the day.
This coming weekend sees our qualifying for the Club Championships and I'd like to take the opportunity on behalf of Fraser, Amy and myself to wish everyone the best of luck with their quests to qualify.
The course as usual goes from strength to strength and as our championship draws closer the greens get faster (pictured above)!
The shop continues to receive new stock weekly, pop in for a nose!!!
