Saturday saw the playing of our annual Silver Medal which was for the nine and under handicaps. 36 holes in strong winds and heavy downpours didn't deter some great scoring. This year's winner was Greg Wishart who shot an incredible 71 followed by an afternoon 72 to win by four. Many of the usual suspects qualified as well as three of our junior team! With the first round now played, scores can be found on the club's Facebook page where we aim to keep you all updated - click here to access.
Sunday again saw windy but dry conditions and with Darrell Keith carding a most excellent 82 to win him the Bronze Medal, he managed to keep the pack behind by two. We wish everyone competing the very best of luck and please note that the first tee will be closed from 5pm Wednesday, Friday and selected times Sunday for the finals.
Junior member Callun Giffen won Sunday's Fife Strokeplay held at Thornton Golf Club with rounds of 69 and 71, winning by two shots. We wish Callum many congratulations on his win, this also reduced his handicap to two, now the lowest junior member in the club at this time.
Fraser is now back from his well-earned rest. REST? I'll crack the jokes! This Thursday sees him head to Deer Park for The Deer Park Master qualifier, an update will follow next week on how he fared.
Please be advised that Fraser will be using the practice facility on Wednesday 13th, 27th July and 10th August at 10am for one hour. This will be for a Junior Clinic that we are hosting for Anstruther Golf Club. Fraser has been coaching the juniors there for almost two years now, taking over where Jack left off. It is great to see the kids enjoy the game and we may even manage to steal a few!
Each summer we do group lessons for children of members under the age of 12. Any member who has a child or grandchild under this age, please give us a call. The first of our clinics will be on Sunday, 17 July at 1pm. The group will work on a first-come first-served basis and will be a maximum of eight children. There is no cost involved so please get in touch as minimum numbers are required.
Is it the 'Big Three' or the 'Big Four'?
Just when you thought Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy were all set to divvy up golf's biggest prizes, along comes big-hitting Dustin Johnson. The US champion is now number two in the world and looks to be finally fulfilling his potential after another fine win at the weekend - and a big one too at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. For years Johnson seemed destined to be the bridesmaid, now he's one of the favourites to go back-to-back in Majors and take the Claret Jug back across the Atlantic.
Next week's Open at Royal Troon could be a classic
