This weekend sees both The Silver Medal (9 and under) and The Bronze Medal (10 and over) qualifiers. Saturday's event of 36 holes will determine the top 16 for next week's matchplay and crown The Silver Medal winner for the lowest two scratch scores. Sunday's event for the 10 and overs is an 18-hole qualifier but be sure to check your diaries to ensure you are available for the matchplay ties should you qualify.
Last weekend saw the 44th East of Scotland Strokeplay event and with mixed weather on the Sunday, Kilmarnock Barassie's Ewan Walker won by six after shooting a magnificent last round 64. Yet again another successful event with many compliments on the course.
With this weekend's event being the pinnacle tournament of any club's calendar, Willie and his team continue to run the same program leading up to Saturday as they did for last weekend - double cutting and the use of the turf iron will ensure the surfaces are running spot on. Fingers crossed the weather will be kinder than last year's and looking at the forecast it looks like we're good.
Some of you may recall that we had The R&A here about six weeks ago doing a little survey on slow play during one of our medals. You'll be glad to know that the missing member that Saturday has turned up! Past Captain Bruce Reid had gotten a little lost during his round and eventually turned up last weekend where Stuart Barton from Stuart Barton Physiotherapy - one of our sponsors over the weekend for the East - was able to attempt to revive him! Good to have you back, Bruce!
If you can't play like the pros, at least look like one…
With summer now upon us (we hope), you'll soon be digging through your wardrobe trying to find a respectable polo shirt to wear. Inevitably you'll have a few that you bought 10 years ago which look tatty and old with the colour faded; then there's your favourite shirt from a few years back that you are trying so desperately hard to fit in to; and then you have the shirt with a few stains on but you wear under a jumper anyway as no-one will see.
Sound about right?
We have some lovely looking and great fitting shirts in-store at the moment - just take a look at the photos here.
You may have been in to take a look earlier on in the year, but we've recently received a new drop of clothing from all of our apparel brands. Not only that, but we regularly change around what we have on display so it is worth coming in for a browse if you haven't had a look in the last few weeks. There's bound to be a shirt or two that's right up your street.
So come and see us in-store, take a browse at the numerous collections we have, try on some shirts and look the part on the course this summer. Remember what they say:
Look good, feel great, play well...
We had some nice club crested belts delivered at the end of last week, one size that can be cut to suit. Feel free to swing by for a look as we are here every day.
As usual, we aim to please where we can and should there be anything you do want but don't see when you're in, please ask. We have the added bonus of being a member of Foremost Golf, so nine times out of ten we are able to source most products should we not have them in store.
No tour news from the shop this weekend; Fraser is off this week so it's a week's rest for us both.
