Thursday saw young Dean Robertson and I head to Crieff for The Lombard Trophy, on what was a mild but damp day. The course looked great and we were excited to compete for the chance to head to Portugal in September for the grand finale. Well, unfortunately we had an average day at the office. With a solid start we were standing on the 9th tee three-under-par and with the 9th being a par-5, we were confident. Dean's solid seven and my incredible eight saw us plummet to mid-pack and we were unable to claw it back. Suffice to say we thoroughly enjoyed the day, the golf was good at times but we both need to do a little work on the putting green.
Tuesday saw Fraser head to Musselburgh but alas it was not meant to be. Some solid golf with not many birdies wasn't good enough but an enjoyable day had, they live to fight another day.
This weekend sees the annual East of Scotland Strokeplay Championship. Please note that the course will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday and that no play will be available until the completion of play Sunday. As always, we'd be delighted for everyone to come and spectate and see some of golf's next generation. Practice rounds will take place over the coming days so please don't panic when you see players using the white tees.
At last, DJ did it. On a challenging Oakmont with much controversy, didn't he do well? You've got to feel for Lowry but boy did the USGA make a mess of it. Decisions in golf are never easy and even in the local Club Medals week after week we hear discussion about instances here in the shop. Wouldn't our sport be boring if we didn't have this controversy! Please keep scrolling to view a video on the big talking point from Sunday's final round.
